TAP THE GIN followed in range outside a rival, rounded the bend in the two path, tipped out at the top of the lane, surged to the front under left handed encouragement and drove clear. DIAGHILEV grabbed the early lead and moved inside, met the bid from CHAPTER ONE on the turn, resisted into deep stretch and yielded to the winner late. MELISMATIC (IRE) hopped at the start, lagged behind early then drew closer past the half mile pole, raced on the inside into the turn, swung out for the stretch, offered a mild rally and got up for third. BRIGHT EYE BUNGLE (IRE) was off slow to begin, moved into range from inside, waited behind the leader around the turn, lacked room in upper stretch, tried to split foes but failed to find enough space and bumped CHAPTER ONE midstretch, remained close in deep stretch but never found room. CHAPTER ONE was closest in pursuit up the backstretch, latched onto DIAGHILEV around the bend, fought into the final furlong, got bumped from inside midstretch and flattened late. THERE WAS AN INQUIRY INVOLVING THE STRETCH RUN BETWEEN BRIGHT EYE BUNGLE (IRE) AND CHAPTER ONE. AFTER A REVIEW, THE STEWARDS' UNANIMOUSLY RULED THAT ALTHOUGH THERE WAS CONTACT BETWEEN THE PAIR, THE INCIDENT DID NOT COST CHAPTER ONE A CHANCE AT A BETTER PLACING AND WOULD BE NO CHANGE.
