Footnotes
GRAND SLAM SMILE rubbed the gate, leaving, went up to take control from inside, led two wide into the turn then moved to the rail, responded when called upon in the lane and remained clear to the wire. TAKE ANOTHER CARD chased after the leader inside a pair of rivals, saved ground around the turn, finished willingly to earn second but could not threaten the winner. PRANCINGTHRUPARIS broke through the gate just before the gate opened for the rest of the field, stalked three deep down the hill, chased within striking distance into the final furlong, lacked the needed late punch but was able to outduel YOUNG LOVE for the show honors. YOUNG LOVE chased between rivals three then two wide down the hill, pursued in range through the final furlong, could not produce a bid and got edged for the show honors. MISS PRACTICAL threw her head when held momentarily at the start, trailed while in range of the leader early, rounded the bend three then two wide, steered out across the dirt and could not rally. THERE WAS AN INQUIRY INVOLVING THE STARTS OF BOTH PRANCINGTHRUPARIS AND MISS PRACTICAL. AFTER A REVIEW, THE STEWARDS RULED THAT PRANCINGTHRUPARIS BROKE THROUGH HER GATE EARLY, GIVING HER AN UNFAIR ADVANTAGE OVER THE REST OF THE FIELD AND WAS DECLARED A NON-STARTER. THE STEWARDS THEN RULED THAT MISS PRACTICAL WAS NOT AWARDED A FAIR START AND WAS ALSO DECLARED A NON-STARTER. DUE TO A TIMER MALFUNCTION, THE FINAL TIME WAS HAND-TIMED.
