CURLIN COMMAND set the pace under pressure from COLONEL SLADE, put that rival away in upper stretch and held safely to the wire. BIG BILL pursued in range of the leader from off the rail, moved into the two path, chased three wide turning for home, finished determinedly through the lane but could not reach the winner. JIMMY WINKFIELD was off slow from outside, traveled in mid-pack up the backstretch, went two wide into the turn, angled out and came four wide into the lane, kept on through the final furlong and earned the show honors. HONDO'S GOLD stalked from inside, saved ground to the stretch and lacked a bid. WASTING ACES raced near the back in the early going, traveled outside a rival then two wide on the turn, went three wide into the stretch, angled down to the inside but needed to find more in the late stages. ROYAL RUMOR lost his path and had to steady early, trailed early then had one rival beat into the turn, went three wide around the bend and improved position. GILCHRIST had to steady crossing back onto the turn early, saved ground to the stretch, then moved out in the lane but failed to get involved. COLONEL SLADE pressed the pace from outside to the stretch and weakened. ITS THE BANDIT crossed awkwardly onto the dirt costing him momentum, chased from off the pace on the inside and failed to menace.
