Footnotes
MONDEGO (GB) settled outside a rival, moved into striking distance on the backstretch, challenged the top pair from outside at the three-eighths pole, dueled with FLASHIEST at the five-sixteenths pole, put a head in front in upper stretch and maintained a short advantage over FLASHIEST to the wire. FLASHIEST was closest in pursuit from the two path in the opening stages, drew alongside BALLADEER at the half-mile pole, dueled leaving the backstretch, took over at the three-eighths pole, moved to the rail while dueling with MONDEGO (GB) after clearing BALLADEER, relinquished the lead in upper stretch, fought back gamely through the final furlong but had to settle for second best. THE PADRE (IRE) trailed in the early going and moved inside, moved into range in the middle stages, was on the move three deep around the far turn then took aim two wide entering the lane, moved out and bid outside the top pair down the stretch but could not summon the needed final kick. HIDING IN HONDURAS tracked along the rail, closed in on the backstretch, chased two wide on the final turn then found the rail at the quarter pole, shifted off the fence at the eighth pole and finished evenly late. BALLADEER away quickest to take the lead and steered to the inside, controlled the pace along the rail to the backstretch, took pressure from FLASHIEST at the half-mile pole, fought on even terms into the far turn, yielded to outer rivals approaching the five-sixteenths pole and dropped back to last, came off the rail into the lane, eased through the final furlong and walked off.
