VALIANT SON tracked out of range from off the rail then drew closer outside a rival, latched onto GAZON (GB) on the turn, took over in upper stretch and edged clear late. GAZON (GB) away quickest to take the lead outside a pair of rivals, cleared and crossed over to the rail, took pressure from VALIANT SON on the turn, lost command in upper stretch, stayed on well from the fence into deep stretch, then yielded to the winner late. TRIBAL followed from out of range then moved closer into the turn, rounded the bend in the two path, moved out further in the drive, could not summon the needed rally but was able to hold off SPEARFISH for the show honors. SPEARFISH trailed the field in the early going, passed a rival into the turn, advanced two then three wide around the bend and could not get by TRIBAL for third. BELLY UP pressed the pace from between rivals then ceded command to the leader approaching the turn, chased from inside around the bend and weakened in the drive. EL BROMISTA settled inside, ran up behind FUEGO DEL SOL and stumbled badly when clipping heels into the turn, trailed on the inside then tipped out for the stretch and could not make an impact. FUEGO DEL SOL showed early foot inside the top pair then backed off when crowded past the half-mile pole, saved ground through the turn and had little left for the stretch run. THERE WAS A STEWARDS INQUIRY REGARDING THE RUN INTO THE TURN. THE STEWARDS UNANIMOUSLY RULED THAT EL BROMISTA CAUSED HIS OWN PROBLEMS BY RUNNING INTO A TIGHT SPOT AND THERE WOULD BE NO CHANGE.
