HOT ROD CHRISTINE unhurried in the opening stages, trailed along the rail then in the two path, raced outside a rival on the backstretch, gained through the far turn, chased three wide into the lane, tipped out into the clear to unleash a rally, reeled in the leader with a sixteenth to go, came in to impede LADY RUTH late and got up in the final moments. SPRINGLINE bobbled a bit in the first few strides out of the gate, tracked from inside out of range, moved closer in the middle stages, bid between rivals on the far turn, inched ahead at the quarter pole, drew clear in upper stretch, drifted out a bit in the late stages while challenged by pair of rivals and got passed near the wire. CAN'T SAY THAT saved ground from well off the pace, picked up stride around the far turn, moved off the fence in the lane, lacked room room behind rivals in upper stretch, angled to the inside and finished willingly to get by LADY RUTH for third. LADY RUTH laid off the pace three then two wide around the first turn, moved into range on the second bend, was closest in pursuit into the final furlong, rallied between rivals in deep stretch, had her path taken and checked late and lost third. MISS HOT AND COLD chased in the two path, cut into the lead on the backstretch, bid three deep on the far turn, could not sustain the challenge and chased after the leader into the stretch, then flattened out in the furlong grounds. STORMY GAL established the front quickly and steered to the inside, challenged by a pair of rivals midway around the far turn, lost command at the quarter pole, yielded to the new leader at the top of the stretch and weakened. MAGIC CARPET RIDE reserved in the early going along the inside, ridden along on the backstretch, tired on the far turn, eased in the lane and walked off. THERE WAS A STEWARDS' INQUIRY INVOLVING THE STRETCH RUN. FOLLOWING A REVIEW, THE STEWARDS UNANIMOUSLY RULED THAT ALTHOUGH HOT ROD CHRISTINE AND SPRINGLINE BOTH TOOK THE PATH OF LADY RUTH LATE IN THE RACE, THE INCIDENT DID NOT COST LADY RUTH A CHANCE AT A BETTER PLACING AND THERE WOULD BE NO CHANGE.
