NEED MO DIAMONDS reared up in the gate, showed the way under pressure from a pair of rivals in the early going, headed on the turn, dug in under left handed urging, inched ahead midstretch, then held over the late run from QUALITY ROAD in the final strides. QUALITY GOLD chased inside rivals from off the pace, exited the turn in the two path, angled out to unleash a rally, put in a late run to reel in the winner but ran out of ground. FAIR QUESTION attended the pace outside the top pair, moved up on even terms around the bend, battled to the sixteenth pole and flattened late. SAGUNTO pressed between rivals up the backstretch, headed NEED MO DIAMONDS on the turn, fought into deep stretch then also flattened late. WHIZ KIDD chased three deep in the second flight, remained three wide to the stretch and could not rally when called upon. OMISSION climbed a bit chasing between rivals at the back, angled to the inside early on the turn then moved back out, came three wide into the lane and had little left for the drive. MANSA MUSA was moving around just before the gates opened then came away bit slow when the latch was sprung, chased four deep in the second flight early, lost ground while angling down to the two path around the turn and tired in the lane. THERE WAS AN INQUIRY INVOLVING THE START OF MANSA MUSA. FOLLOWING A REVIEW, THE STEWARDS UNANIMOUSLY RULED THAT HE CAUSED HIS OWN PROBLEMS LEAVING THE GATE AND IS CONSIDERED A STARTER.
