OTTIS BETTS stalked from the inside then moved off the rail a bit on the clubhouse turn, returned to the inside on the backstretch, tipped outside the top pair at the five-sixteenths pole, drifted out a bit in upper stretch, drew alongside VAN GOGH STYLE past the eighth pole, took over midstretch and won going away. VAN GOGH STYLE took a short lead inside LOW TOX early, headed by that rival into the backstretch, cleared briefly at the nine-sixteenths marker, pressured again by LOW TOX at the half-mile pole, put that rival away for good at the quarter pole, showed the way into the final furlong, lost command when challenged by OTTIS BETTS past the eighth pole, weakened in deep stretch but was still clearly second best. PROUD RACER was bothered by outer rival prior to the first turn, trailed two wide around the bend, moved into range on the backstretch, moved to the rail on the far turn then chased two wide again turning for home and flattened in the lane. LOW TOX pressed keenly in hand from outside, lost touch briefly with VAN GOGH STYLE at the four and half furlong mark, drew alongside once again at the midway point, came under a ride to keep up on the far turn but lost touch with the leader at the quarter pole, chased two wide into the lane and tired. HUNGOVER followed in range from the two path, went three wide into the far turn, got moved to the four path then angled back in around the bend, chased two wide into the lane and tired. ITS THE BANDIT reserved along the inside in the early going, stayed on the fence into the far turn, moved out to the four path then trailed three wide into the stretch and was never a factor.
