Footnotes
INTREPIDO broke inward, showed brief speed then ceded command to the top pair, steadied a behind DESERT GATE late on the first turn, followed between rivals past the half-mile pole, tried to launch a bid early on the far turn but lacked room between the leaders, had to pause again when boxed in at the quarter pole, angled out into the lane, followed within striking distance into the final sixteenth, then dug in to overhaul the DESERT GATE and PLUTARCH late. DESERT GATE got floated in by INTREPIDO leaving the gate, went up to vie for command into the first turn, dueled with KRISTOFFERSON up the backstretch and around the far turn, put that rival away at the top of the stretch, came under threat from PLUTARCH inside the eighth pole, resisted into deep stretch, got passed by INTREPIDO late and managed to save second. PLUTARCH broke a step slow, angled to the inside, pulled on the first turn, moved up inside a pair of rivals on the backstretch, chased behind DESERT GATE while saving ground through the far turn, cut the corner into the lane, challenged from inside past the eighth pole, fought head to head with DESERT GATE in deep stretch, got outkicked by INTREPIDO late and was edged for second. CIVIL LIBERTY tracked two to three wide on the first turn, chased outside a rival then three deep in the middle stages, remained three wide around the far turn, tipped out into the lane and weakened. BALBOA broke a bit slow, moved into the two path trailing the field, lagged behind in the middle stages, crept closer three then four wide on the far turn, drifted to the inside in the lane and weakened. KRISTOFFERSON fought three deep into the first turn then dueled from outside, battled alongside DESERT GATE through the far turn, failed to kick on with that rival in upper stretch and gave way.
