DARK WIND gave chase to the early speed, closed in through the far turn to make an inside bid at the top of the stretch, edged clear in the final furlong. DERBY EFFORT broke sharply and quickly got loose on the lead, led uncontested until meeting an inner bid from DARK WIND at the top of the lane, grudgingly gave way at the eighth, kept on to keep the place award. SEXPECTATIONS gave chase in the two path, closed some ground in the far turn to enter the stretch just behind the dueling leaders, had no final bid. BLUES CROSS settled off the pace between runners, was cued three wide through the far turn to enter the stretch in a close up position but flattened out in the late stages. ANNA JEAN settled off the pace along the inside, trailed up the backstretch, picked off foe in the far turn before angling out to the five path at the top of the stretch but could do no more. CHICA MUSIC was brushed between rivals at the start, trailed through the first turn, picked off a couple foes three wide up the backstretch, trailed again by the quarter.
