RIVER WAVENEY broke on top but ceded the lead to WELL SHAKEN, opting to stalk that one through slow early fractions, moved up through the turn to put some pressure on that foe near the three-furlong pole, dueled into the lane, gained a narrow lead in upper stretch only to have that rival retake the lead with a furlong to go, battled back gamely in the final yards and edged ahead in the shadow of the wire. WELL SHAKEN seized the early lead, then proceeded to slow the pace to a crawl, maintained a clear margin to the far turn, then quickened when called upon as RIVER WAVENEY pressed the issue midway through the far turn, battled with that rival into the stretch, well clear of the rest, lost the lead in upper stretch, but came back to regain the advantage with a sixteenth to go, then yielded in the final yards. BABY VANESSA brushed with GRAB MY TAB at the start, settled well behind the pace early while staying in the clear down the backstretch, advanced through the far turn to reach contention approaching the quarter pole, could not kick on with the top pair in deep stretch but kept on well to save third well clear of the next finisher. DOT YOUR EYES tracked in mid-pack while saving ground throughout, was outkicked through the stretch but kept on well to hold position. GRAB MY TAB got shuffled back after the start, then pulled through the first turn while being held up near the rear, raced in mid-field down the backstretch, then had to be hard ridden to keep up and lacked a finish. MOONLIGHT MARTINI settled at the back of the field despite the slow pace up front, then was unable to keep up with the quickening pace in the later stages. FIRE went three-wide through the first turn, settled just behind the pacesetter to the outside of a rival, began to retreat on the far turn, and was outrun the rest of the way.
