Footnotes
MARDENE settled into stride stalking on the outside of horses near the rear in the first quarter, began to reach for more ground circling runners four wide by midturn, loomed boldly outside the leaders five wide turning for home, drove past for the lead at the furlong pole and with a good late surge, won going away at the finish line. LEMONCELLA SPRITZ moved well in the two path keeping a close eye on the stablemate who was the lone speed along the backside, inched closer between foes coming under a ride midway on the turn, battled three wide between challengers in the mix in upper stretch, could not go with the winner outside in the final eighth of a mile but finished up strongly to be a clear second best in the end. MRS. HOT SHOT had an inside stalking role in the early going, made little improvement just off the fence in the running around the bend, shifted out to the three path for the drive to the line and grinded away determinedly between foes to win the show battle in the last sixteenth. NO VISOR was nudged along while outside foes but remained at the rear down the back straight, began to uncork a rally three wide outside rivals with a quarter mile from home, moved out for clear run in the five path at the top of the stretch, did not switch leads to the wire but finished up willingly still and was up for a minor award late. NAUGHTY DESTINY cleared off right from the start travelling smoothly just off the rail along the backside, increased the margin up top by the half, rambled along loose on the engine through the turn, began to get weary still maintaining control at the head of the lane, had no answer when collared outside by the winner at the furlong marker and folded late, losing a few positions in deep stretch. WORLD SHOWCASE had a tracking position three deep on the outside watching the frontrunner at the half, closed the gap on the pacesetter going three wide in midturn with rivals on either side, had a chance for a piece of the prize four wide between horses in upper stretch but gave way by the furlong pole. NIGHTSABER (GB) had the rail chasing the lone speed down the back straight, gave way abruptly on the rail in the turn by the quarter pole, emptied out in the three-path turning for home and galloped down the lane to the finish line.
