Footnotes
THE GREAT OZ broke in at the start, battled outside for the top spot in the early going, seized command getting a head in front by the half, pulled away increasing the advantage loose on the lead around the turn, opened up further ,well in control turning for home and was kept busy to the wire holding sway from a fast closing runner up. WYOMING BILL settled between foes close to the back end, started to commence a rally three wide at the five sixteenths marker, moved out in the seven path gathering more speed straightening out for the drive and had a solid late charge in deep stretch but could not get to the winner in time. ICE CHOCOLAT (BRZ) travelled on the outside in mid-division, began to pick up the bit midway on the turn while just off the fence, angled six wide in the hunt between horses in upper stretch, ran on to the end but was outkicked by the outside rival for the place share in the final sixteenth. WATSONVILLE RED was brushed by the outside rival on the start, shared the rear while inside another on the turn, closed the gap smartly by the quarter pole and finished up willingly splitting foes for a minor role in the end. MIDNIGHT MASCOT stalked near the rear on the outside, co-trailed outside another around the oval, swung out widest in the eight path with clear run at the top of the stretch but could only manage to pass weary foes down the lane. CRUMLIN LAD vied inside having a slim lead in the beginning, relinquished the front end by the half, was scrubbed on inside horses having the rail trying to narrow the margin on the pacesetter in the turn and gave way inside foes through the stretch drive. ARABIAN PRINCE was situated in the second flight with runners on each side, was roused for more between foes trying to go after the loose leader in midturn, dueled in the two path for a small share at the head of the lane, could not find more late and faded in the final eighth. BAXLEY kept a close eye on the frontrunner while three deep on the outside along the back straight, travelled three wide still outside foes unable to make any headway around the oval, began to shorten stride between horses in the four path still in with a chance for share at the top of the lane but had nothing left, stopping in the late stages. FORTY N FIVE had a tracking position on the rail early on, settled on the fence in the third flight through the bend and came up empty inside foes through the stretch drive.
