Footnotes
REGAL GUEST dueled on the outside down the backstretch, moved up on the turn to put a head in front between horses at the quarter pole, was passed briefly by outside rivals at the top of the lane but tenaciously fought back on the inside to regain command in the final sixteenth for the gutsy comeback score. PAYNES SPIRIT veered outwards on the start, had a good set up watching the engaged duo at the half, made a bid three wide on the turn coming to the leaders at the quarter marker, vied between runners in the four path turning for home and gamely battled on with rivals on either side getting a head bob in front briefly with a furlong to go but was just outkicked late for the top spot. NEXT PITCH travelled in midfield isolated along the backstretch moving well in hand, offered a sharp turn of foot under a good hold coming up to the leaders four wide on the bend by the quarter marker, loomed in the five path getting a slight advantage briefly at the top of the lane, stayed on the wrong lead to the finish line and faded a touch late to settle for the show award in a tight finish in deep stretch. GONE WITH DUWYN was brushed on the outside at the break, travelled near the rear in a stalking position along the backstretch, made a good move shifting outside in midturn closing the gap smartly by the quarter pole five wide, posed a serious threat outside runners in the six path in upper stretch but flattened out in the final eighth a mile for a minor share in the end. PHILLIP MY WINE was checked between horses shortly after leaving the gate to trail the group, started to pick up runners outside by the half, made little improvement on the turn and could not get involved having the three path in the drive to the finish line. COMMANDER WORSLEY had an inside stalking role down the back straight, regressed on the rail seeing the field around the oval and could only manage to pass a weary foe in deep stretch. BANKINGONAMIRACLE exchanged brushes with the inside foe on the break, recovered to battle inside through the back straight, had a slim advantage on the fence in midturn, relinquished the front end with a host of outside foes closing in by the quarter marker, wilted on the fence in upper stretch and shortened stride not being persevered with in the late going.
