Footnotes
CONN SMYTHE (GB) broke inwards on the start, had a nice set-up on the rail watching the lead trio in the beginning, remained on the fence, poised waiting for the cue to go measuring the engaged duo through the turn up front, rallied, splitting horses when coaxed for more at the quarter pole, looked the main threat three wide turning for home and seized control when finally set down leaving the eighth pole to win going away smartly at the wire. SPIRITUAL MAN broke outwards on the start, had a tracking position on the leader outside down the backstretch, closed in through the turn to assume command on the outside by the quarter pole, had the two path up top in upper stretch, could not fend off the charge by the winner outside in the final furlong but did last to the wire to best the rest for the runners up share in the end. BAYTOWN ANUBIS had runners on either side while settled in mid-pack, edged up on the lead foursome at the five sixteenths pole, made a sharp move four wide to be a menacing presence at the quarter marker, swung out widest with momentum in the seven pat at the top of the stretch and closed in belatedly to get up for the show money late. ASHUKA kept a close eye on the frontrunner going three deep on the outside, moved well in the second flight outside a rival around the bend to bid three wide at the quarter pole, angled to the six path in the mix at the top of the lane but evened out in the final sixteenth of a mile to settle on the fringes. TURBO CHARGED was squeezed at the start to stalk on the fence close to the back in the early going, continued inside but made little headway on the turn, moved out to the three path between runners for the stretch drive and finished up with some interest in the final furlong but could not get involved with the top four finishers. ENCORE MO was pushed out on the start, sat in midfield on the outside by the half, travelled outside another running one paced around the turn making little impact and had little to offer in the four path in the drive to the finish line. SWITCHIN' TO GLIDE was unhurried trailing on the fence, picked up an outside runner by the five sixteenths pole, moved out to the five path for the stretch run but could only pass a weary straggler in the final furlong. FRIENDLY was bumped at the start, stalked on the outside close to the back end along the backstretch, was relegated to last in midturn while going three wide and could only mange to pass the stopping early frontrunner who ran out of gas in the final eighth of a mile. WAMPANOAG CHIEF had a poor start on the break, recovered quickly to be loose on the lead along the back straight, rolled along early in the turn but had company outside giving way up top with little resistance by the quarter pole, had little left in the tank for the drive and faltered on the rail in upper stretch.
