Footnotes
WYOMING BILL hopped up slightly when the gate opened up, settled on the rail in mid-division in the early going, narrowed the gap getting outside going four deep down the backstretch at the half, made a bold move circling four wide effortlessly around foes to bid up top with three inside rivals midway on the far turn, battled outside rivals in the five path up top in upper stretch and when urged right handed in the final sixteenth of a mile pulled away smartly for the win. ENGLISH ACTOR broke outwards on the break, set the pace just off the fence in the first of two turns, slowed things down still loose up top along the backside, was headed outside by a trio of rivals at the five sixteenths pole, maintained a slim advantage skimming the fence in upper stretch, dug in stubbornly inside the winner until the sixteenth pole but could not match strides late and just lasted at the wire holding for the place share. LIKE THE KING had the fence keeping tabs on the pacesetter through the first turn and down the back straight, had a good position waiting just off the fence on the far turn watching the contesting quartet slug it out at the quarter pole, found a seam two wide in upper stretch, did not switch leads in the stretch drive but continued to battle on determinedly until the very end and just about got up late for the place share outside at the finish line. HE'S NOT JOKING was rating on the outside in mid-pack, took closer order down the backstretch by the half mile marker, rallied to bid for the lead fighting up top three wide between runners midway around the final bend, remained in the mix in the four path in upper stretch but flattened out in the final eighth to settle on the fringes in the end. JUNIPERO SERRA was allowed to settle at the back, had a turn of foot going four wide outside of rivals at the quarter pole, was floated out to be widest in the eight path at the top of the lane and failed to fire in the late going. HAMMERHEAD had the rail ahead of only one runner, shifted just off the fence making little headway by the half, was roused for more at the quarter pole lacking a response, shifted to the five path turning for home and put in a mild rally splitting a couple of runners in the final furlong. WATSONVILLE RED stalked close to the back for most of this route race, kept pace going four wide on the last turn outside of runners, angled out in seven path for the drive to the finish line but had little left to offer in the drive. MIDNIGHT MASCOT travelled three wide tracking the frontrunner, moved in to shadow the pace outside down the backstretch, fought on up front two wide with horses on either side with five sixteenths to go, was first of the dueling leaders to give way three wide between horses in upper stretch and weakened further inside of runners by the furlong pole. LOST ARK was checked slightly on the rail heading into the first turn watching the lead three runners, settled into a rhythm on the fence in mid-pack along the backside, was hard ridden trying to hold position around the last bend and wilted in the six path between foes in deep stretch.
