Footnotes
EL CAPO took control right from the onset, opened up well in command in midturn with the rider still in the saddle, had a commanding lead in mid-stretch and coasted home unchallenged throughout for the gate to wire victory. BUIUM had a stalking role near the rear in the beginning, began to make a rally with runners on either side at the three furlong pole, reached for more ground smartly circling four wide around rivals at the quarter pole, had a full head of steam in the six path at the head of the lane but was no match for the winner while being well ahead of the rest of the field in second place at the finish line. VERY SPECIAL was forwardly placed leaving the gate, regressed by the half, came under a busy ride making no headway between horses around the bend, swung out widest in the seven path at the top of the lane and had a good late rally outside to get up in the shadow of the wire for the show money. PROUD PAINTER broke outwards on the start, tracked in the two path down the backside, kept pace with the lead pair while outside another in the second flight around the bend, battled between rivals for a piece of the prize in the four path down the lane but was caught in the closing stages, nabbed for the show money in deep stretch. JOLTED gave futile chase to the frontrunning winner down the backstretch as well as throughout the turn and weakened late, fading in the two path between runners in the final eighth of a mile. WEMBLEY AVENUE had the fence part of the back trio along the back straight, started to get into another gear at the five sixteenths pole and showed some interest in the five path improving down the lane to the wire. MYSTIC PATH travelled three deep sharing the rear, had little to give on the running around the turn going three wide, angled to the six path for the drive but made little impact in the stretch run. APELDOORN sat all alone unable to keep up to the lead foursome down the backside by the half mile pole, came under a ride in mid-pack just holding position through the turn and had little left in the drive, wilted in the two path in the final furlong. WILL WIN had the fence in the secondary flight inside another runner down the back, continued that position status unchanged around the turn, battled on the on the rail dueling for the second place prize with the winner long gone in upper stretch but yielded to others outside in the final furlong. BATTLE WARNING co-trailed with runners on each side down the back straight, could see the field unable to make a rally on the bend, scraped paint turning for home but could not be a factor only passing a straggler in upper stretch. LAKE NASSER was checked at the start with the inside rival coming over to trail in the beginning, improved four deep along the backside by the seven sixteenths pole, travelled four wide on the turn but was retreating by the quarter marker and emptied out in the six path turning for home.
