Footnotes
WAHEELA settled near the rear going five deep initially, made a savvy move splitting foes at the half getting inside position heading into the turn, waited patiently behind horses just off the fence around the bend, scraped the paint at the top of the stretch then threaded the needle darting through a tight seam inside the furlong pole and poked his head in front just a few strides before the wire for the victory under a very heads up ride. ASHUKA was forwardly placed tracking the leader outside another, closed in through the turn three wide making a bid by the quarter pole, duelled stubbornly between rivals in the four path in upper stretch but was denied at the wire with the winner slipping up the fence late in a blanket finish for the win. CASTLE HARBOUR was forced out on the start, stalked outside rivals in the four path at the half mile pole, uncorked a rally circling four wide around horses midway on the turn, loomed menacingly in the five path at the top of the stretch, battled outside for the top spot going head to head with two inside foes with a sixteenth remaining but just missed out in a thrilling finish having to settle for the show money in a three way win photo. FRIENDLY had a stalking position ahead of only the poor starter who checked on the break, continued close to the back end unable to progress around the oval while just off the rail, shifted to the five path off the dueling leaders in upper stretch and had good late energy to garner a minor share in the end. GRAND WARRIOR (JPN) rated kindly in hand drafting behind the pacesetter along the back straight, remained behind the frontrunner just waiting for instructions to go throughout the turn, opted to shift outwards in the two to three path trying to get a seam but was stymied down the stretch unable to have running room when it mattered at the furlong pole stuck behind the tiring early leader for most of the stretch run. CARRICK ON STAGE veered out on the break, had a good spot watching the lead trio contest things at the half mile marker, had some traffic behind horses three wide from the three eighths pole until midturn, was roused at the quarter marker but offered little response when clear, angled out widest in the seven path at the top of the lane but made no impression through the stretch drive. NYCELY stumbled on the start but recovered quickly to be up top by the time they were leaving the chute, sat all alone controlling the pace at the half, continued on the front end with little pressure being applied by his rivals midway around the bend, was still holding on just off the fence straightening out for the drive but many were closing in and had nothing left by the sixteenth pole when engulfed by runners on either side. BLAZING SONG was taken up at the start when the inside rival veered out on the break, trailed well behind leaving the chute, could not close the gap running around the oval and never factored in the stretch run due to the compromised beginning.
