Footnotes
COBURG had the lead on the rail into the first turn, continued to have a head in front while shadowed outside down the backstretch, surrendered the lead trying to slow the pace down on the fence around the far turn at the quarter pole, switched out to the three path in mid-stretch and showed strong tenacity coming back on resurgent in deep stretch to get up for the win. WEMBLEY AVENUE stalked near the rear, travelled close to the back ahead of only one runner down the backside, made a sharp circling move three wide sensing the slow internal fraction around the far turn at the quarter pole, spurted away getting the jump on the winner in upper stretch, drifted in under right-handed asking in the final furlong and almost stole the race with a sixteenth from home but was caught in the final few strides for the win outside. VERY SPECIAL hopped on the break plus was slammed from the outside rival leaving the gate, recouped to sit in the second flight in tandem with the outside foe along the backside, tracked on the rail waiting to make a move midway through the far turn while taking the shortest path around, swung out quickly for a clear path five wide at the top of the stretch and kept on coming to the very end, closed in determinedly late but could not get to the front pair while being a clear third at the wire. TORONTO CITY lagged behind the pack in the early stages, closed the gap in range of the field by the half, was quite in the mix of things with the field bunching up going three wide at the quarter pole behind the leaders but had to be throttled down in tight losing momentum between foes, stayed on the incorrect lead down the lane but still finished with interest for a minor role in the end. HELLO STRANGER hounded the pacesetter outside right from the onset, continued to be a thorn in the leaders right side throughout the backstretch, still was forcing the issue between foes in the fray up top at the quarter pole, was floated out in the six path by the inside runner turning for home and came up empty in the stretch running. WHO GOES THERE veered in sharply on the break, settled on the outside in the second flight for the first half of this two turn race, was roused for more but could not quicken three wide between foes at the quarter pole, angled to the five path for the stretch drive but failed to menace in the late going.
