Footnotes
WAR STRATEGY pressed from outside from the outset, drew even at the three-eighths, took command at the quarter pole, edged clear in upper- to mid-stretch, held sway. SPEEDY BEAR pressed the early pace from inside then eased back settling in behind to track the leading pair, came out four wide leaving the turn, kept on under stout urging and held second. YACHT BOY settled well back along the inside, saved ground on the turn, swung six wide out of that bend then moved out eight to nine deep, gained late but missed the place. BACHELOR PAD vied between runners early then took a narrow lead to set the pace near the inside, dueled through the turn, yielded in the stretch. HUMBER RIVER chased from outside foes four to five wide through the turn, ran on but needed more. THUNDERMAKER made an early advance up the backstretch outside gradually shifting in, chased two to three wide on the turn dropping back between runners past the five-sixteenths when asked to keep up, steadily weakened. LAST AMERICAN EXIT was mid-pack inside but held up in behind from the half to the three-eighths, lost some ground on the leaders then and was encouraged along, swung seven wide into upper stretch, failed to rally. PERFECT CRIME lacked early speed bringing up the rear, swung eight wide into upper stretch, was not a factor. GILT EDGE chased from between runners, dropped back and faded.
