Footnotes
HEMLO GOLD rated kindly tracking in the second flight on the outside, ranged out outside another to the leaders by the quarter pole, was pushed out four wide by the weary frontrunner in upper stretch, pounced to the lead by the furlong marker and won going away decisively at the finish. SMALL TALK had an inside stalking trip in the third flight with the field spread out along the backstretch, took closer order shifting out three wide a quarter mile from home, lacked running room losing its path in upper stretch but determinedly fought on to the best the rest for second money at the finish line. ELUSIVE KNIGHT had a sluggish start to co-trail inside in the beginning, could see the group unhurried along the backside, closed the gap getting into gear around the final turn, rallied three wide between horses down the stretch, was in tight for a moment at the sixteenth pole but finished well to capture the show money at the wire. MID DAY IMAGE was away slowly to trail outside with the other poor starter in the beginning, improved three wide circling runners on the first turn, moved in to hound the frontrunner down the back straight, could not match strides with the leader by the quarter pole, shifted out in the five path in the mix for a share at the top of the stretch and under mild urging with only a hand ride fought back to settle on the fringes in the end. CHAIRMAN BOB was fractious in the stall prior to the start, stalked near the rear outside in the first turn, made little progression outside another along the backside, travelled three wide on the last bend making little headway, swung out widest in the six path turning for home but needed more late when dueling outside for a minor placing. SILENT MIRACLE dictated a moderate pace loose up top on the first bend, narrowly maintained the advantage on the lead inside while quickening the tempo at the half, edged away from the early speed foe with a quarter mile to run, was clinging onto the lead three wide drifting out in upper stretch and wilted between runners in the last sixteenth of a mile. LEGAL ATTACK (GB) was nestled on the rail behind the pacesetter in the early stages, waited for the cue to go on the fence inside the eventual winner at the quarter pole, had clear run skimming the rail in upper stretch but lacked an inside rally in the final furlong. RIDERS CLAIM OF FOUL #2 SMALL TALK AGAINST #7 HEMLO GOLD IN UPPER STRETCH WAS DISALLOWED
