Footnotes
SMART ALMASTY broke out on the start, had a stalking role five wide outside on the first of two turns, improved outside runners four deep at the half mile marker, made a sharp move swooping around rivals four wide at the three eighths marker bidding for the front, edged away in the five path turning for home and stubbornly kept finding under a bust ride to hold safe at the finish line. MO TOURIST had the rail in midfield in the early good, mapped out an ideal trip all alone watching the contesting quartet at the three furlong pole, shifted out for clear run in the six path posing the main threat in upper stretch and determinedly kept picking up runners outside in the stretch run to be second best at the wire. CAN'T JUMP had the lead angling in slightly when crossing the wire for the first time, set the dawdling pace just off the rail on the initial turn, relinquished the lead with a rival shooting through on the fence into the backstretch, chased the leader at the half, reengaged to fight for the top spot in the two path between horses throughout the second bend, was in the thick of it all two wide straightening out for home and finished up willingly to hold for the third place share in the end. JAY BIRD was in tight bouncing off the rail with a mile to go under the wire for the first time, drafted behind the pacesetter on the first turn, darted up the rail to be loose on the lead with a half mile to go, had a trio of challengers outside dueling for the front at the three furlong pole, stubbornly never wavered inside horses down the stretch and held for a minor share in a thrilling late finish. ANSELMO was unhurried at the rear in the beginning, could still see the field along the backstretch, lagged behind around the final bend and finished with good late energy coming into the five wide outside in deep stretch to just miss out in a three way duel for the show money. MILITARY FORCE tracked the pacesetter while travelling three wide on the first bend, settled on the outside in the second flight watching the loose leader at the half, was forced to go with outside foe being in the three path between horses battling up front at the three furlong pole, continued to fight on three wide with rivals on either side in upper stretch for the lead and faded in the final seventy yards in a scramble of a finish at the wire. MODDASSAH was bumped inside on the break, travelled four wide close to the back outside foes in the first turn, made no progression in the three path between horses along the backside, closed the gap but not position through the far turn, skimmed the fence in with a chance for a share in touch with the leader in upper stretch, shifted out three wide looking for room behind a wall of runners at the eighth pole and had clear run late but failed to fire. STEWARDS INQUIRY AT THE MILE POLE RESULTED IN #3 CAN'T JUMP BEING DISQUALIFIED FOR INTERFERENCE ON THE #1 JAY BIRD AND PLACED FOURTH
