WESTERN WHIRL broke out on the start, had an uncontested lead into the backstretch, was pressed inside for the front end by the half mile marker, went head to head with the pesky inside for into the turn, comfortably edged away outside with five sixteenths to go, was well in hand in the two path in control at the top of the lane and drew off with ease when asked for more in the final furlong. BABBO bobbled on the break, appeared to be content tracking the pacesetter inside early down the backside, moved in with no one else pressing the pace at the half having the rail, battled inside up top going into the bend, could not keep up to the winner under a vigorous ride midway on the turn and chased in vain down the stretch to be a clear second at the finish line. POSEIDON STEEL could see the field leaving the chute, co-trailed on the inside by the half, took closer order hugging the fence around the turn, shifted out four wide coming with a run and ran on willingly in the four path to capture the show money albeit a distant third at the finish line. TIME FOR TRUTH had the rail in midfield down the back straight, offered a mild burst urged to go after the frontrunner in midturn, shifted to the three path with a chance for a small share in upper stretch and finished up one paced to garner a minor role in the end. GILT EDGE stalked near the rear in early backstretch, shared the rear outside with a half mile remaining, narrow the margin when scrubbed on for more three wide at the quarter pole, swung out widest in the six path turning for home but had little to show outside foes in the late running. THE GREAT OZ travelled in the middle of the group outside another rival, was hard ridden but could not keep up to the lead three halfway around the bend, emptied out between rivals five wide at the top of the lane and was not persevered with in deep stretch.
