VERDEJO was away alertly getting the early advantage, had a trio of rivals forcing the issue outside at the five eighths pole, edged clear getting an outright lead again by the three furlong marker, rambled on unopposed through the bend, shifted just off the fence well in control at the top of the stretch and kept finding more when called upon down the lane to win going away for the gate to wire tally. FLYING BLACK was in a great spot all by himself watching the contesting quartet down the backstretch, tracked the frontrunner with two other outside foes midway around the turn, had the two path in the thick of things in upper stretch but could only give futile chase in the stretch while besting the rest at the finish line. SPIRIT BEAR was away slowly co-trailing on the outside, made no gain three wide outside of runners in the turn running, swung out widest reaching for more ground in upper stretch and closed in belatedly getting up just before the wire outside capturing the show money. HARD TO CAPTURE was part of the early mix on the front end having the two path, took back being wrangled back of the now lead trio at the half mile marker, made a sharp swooping move three wide at the five sixteenths pole around horses, posed the main opposition four wide at the head of the lane but could not continue the rally and faded between runners in the final furlong only holding for a minor share in the end. YOU BE THE JUDGE moved in through the chute to prompt the issue four deep outside entering the backside, chased the loose leader two wide between challengers in midturn, shifted to the three path at the top of the lane but wilted inside of rivals at the sixteenth pole. ROCKET RILEY shared the rear travelling in tandem with an outside runner down the backstretch, inched closer taking the shortest way around the oval, moved out to the four path turning for home but lacked a rally in the drive. CATCH THE DRIFT broke inwards filling the void left by the slow starter, pressed the early pace between runners in the three path into the backstretch, gave way unable to keep battling up top in the two path with rivals on both sides at the seven sixteenths pole, was hard ridden two wide just trying to hold forward position throughout the turn, shifted to the five path for the run to the wire but had little to offer in the late going.
