TONY FROM ANGUS had a nice spot nestled on the rail tracking the frontrunner, sat poised inside waiting for the cue to go at the three eighths pole, scraped the fence bursting through inside many runners in midturn to take control leaving the quarter pole, shot clear for the outright lead shaving the corner and was kept busy pulling away increasing the margin of victory in the last sixteenth. PROUD PAINTER co-trailed between foes in the early stages, made a big swooping move circling the field five wide on the turn at the quarter pole, swung out widest in the six path in the thick of things in upper stretch, charged home smartly in the final furlong but could not get to the winner who had something left in reserve but did run on solidly to get up outside at the shadow of the wire for the runners up position. TORONTO CITY shared the rear outside a couple of rivals in the backstretch running, closed in four wide making a bid up top between horses at the quarter marker, continued to stubbornly duel with rivals on both sides for the front at the head of the lane but could not find more late and faded in the last sixteenth getting nabbed outside at the wire for the place share. PADDY HOLIDAY had the rail position being part of the back threesome, was hard held on the fence waiting for running room to be a joint last ins, skimmed the fence advancing inside at the top of the stretch to be in with a chance for a small share but could only finish up one paced down the lane to settle on the fringes in the end. HE'S A PIPER travelled three deep outside two others keeping a close eye on the pacesetter, made a brief move getting a head in front for a fleeting moment three wide in midturn, could not keep up to rival still in the three path when turning for home and wilted between runners by the eighth pole. FORESTERS LASTLOVE settled between horses forwardly place watching the loose leader down the backstraight, dropped back at the half, co-trailed outside midway on the turn with the field bunching up, shifted to the four path for the stretch run but failed to menace in the late running. AU CONTRAIRE had a clear lead just off the rail when entering the backstretch, had the two path just holding onto the lead with a host of runners bearing down at the five sixteenths, offered no resistance being swarmed on both sides dropping out of it by the quarter pole and stopped in upper stretch cantering in through the stretch crossing the finish line.
