Footnotes
PROUD PAINTER settled close to the tail end having only one runner beaten while finding his stride down the backstretch, comfortably took closer order in hand at the quarter pole, pounced outside rivals widest in the five path straightening out for home, had to alter course weaving outside from the inside runner coming out at the furlong pole, got right back into gear and quickly rushed on past at the sixteenth pole taking control and won going away by a good margin at the finish line. TRANQUILLO had the rail position tracking the runaway leader in the early going, was hard ridden on the fence but was closing the gap with the pacesetter getting weary at the quarter pole, darted abruptly to the outside from the two path with a seam closing coming to the furlong marker, rallied four wide in hunt in the final furlong and finished up besting the rest while a distant second at the finish line. CONNECT THE EMPIRE sat outside watching the lone speed ramble in through the backstretch, started to reel in the frontrunner two wide on the oval by the quarter marker, bid in the three path outside the fading pacesetter at the top of the lane, poked a head in front momentarily at the furling pi,e but faded inside runners in the final sixteenth of a mile to be a clear third in the end. RUNAWAY ROCKET broke sharply and to as his namesake was loose up front setting brisk pace down the backstretch, remained uncontested on the engine flying around the turn playing catch me if you can, had rail shortening stride coming back to the field still just holding onto the lead at the top of the stretch and ran out of gas folding on the tail surrendering the lead by the furlong marker. PRIME EDGE was well behind at the rear down the backside with a sizzling pace going on up front, seemed disinterested in running being a long last while coaxed for more on the turn and could only manage to pass the troubled runner in the drive that was being eased at the sixteenth pole. CAN'T TIE ME DOWN had the outside in the middle of the pack with the group widely spread out at the half, kept pace while travelling two wide on the turn, shifted to the four path in the mix between runners for a piece of the prize in upper stretch, was wrangled in briefly avoiding the inside foe who was veering out sharply wanting clear run off of horses at the furlong pole, was eased up at the sixteenth pole cantering across the wire and left via equine ambulance.
