PAYNES SPIRIT tugged at the rider pulling to the lead inside early into the backstretch, had a slim advantage on the fence in the turn, edged away from the early speed foe by the quarter pole, spurted clear when nudged for more at the head of the lane and coasted home safely for the win in deep stretch. CARNEW had a tracking role in the fence in the secondary flight down the backside, took the short way on the bend keeping aim on the lead duo, moved outside off rivals from the rail to the two path coming on in mid-stretch, could not get to the winner late but did win the place duel inside right at the wire. RED WEAVER tracked the front twosome while three deep down the back straight, dropped back slightly at the half, got back into gear four wide mounting a rally with a quarter mile to go, posed a menacing threat in the five path at the top of the stretch, could not sustain the quick rally and stalled at the sixteenth pole losing on the outside of another at the finish line for the runners up placing. DARK DANGER settled on the inside near the rear, made little advance just off the rail running around the turn, gathered momentum shifting out five wide turning for home and found his best stride late getting up for a minor share in the end. MALDINI stalked on the outside close to the back end, made very little movement going three wide around the turn, swung out widest to the six path straightening out for the drive and finished up with intent in the late going while outside of horses. WILD CARD had rivals on both sides sitting in mid-pack, kept pace with the lead duo under a vigorous ride throughout the turn two wide, stayed on the wrong lead three wide in upper stretch and faded inside horses with an eighth of a mile still to run. GLASWEIGIAN had its head in front briefly into the backstretch, pressed the pace outside at the half mile marker, battled outside the front running winner on the turn only to give way up top two furlongs from home, had little left for the stretch run and wilted in the four path by the furlong pole. SCUDERIA had a poor start trailing the field leaving the gate, continued to be at the rear through the turn, shifted outside passing a straggler three wide at the quarter marker but could not factor any further in the stretch running. COOLCOLLECTED settled on the outside in mid-position, retreated through the turn in the two path to be relegated to the back at the quarter pole, lost touch with the pack in upper stretch and galloped in well behind when crossing the finish line.
