Footnotes
STRAND ROAD bumped a few times with a rival at the start, was coaxed along in third position, chased in the three to four path on the turn, gained to make an outside bid into upper stretch, took over just inside the three-sixteenths pole, battled with MAN FROM MALTA into the final furlong, shook off that foe into the final sixteenth and held under strong urging. NINE N FOUR was bumped hard at the start while off slow and forced into another foe then checked, settled on the outside, moved in leaving the backstretch, went around most of the turn in the three path then shifted to the four path coming to the quarter-pole, turned into the stretch in the five path, pursued the leaders on the outside into the final furlong, gained into the final sixteenth and finished with good courage for the place in a good effort. MAN FROM MALTA broke alertly from the outside then angled in while hustled, showed the way down the backstretch, vied inside of a rival while along the rail on the turn, drifted out under a left-handed crop in upper stretch then lost the advantage, battled with the winner until near the sixteenth-pole then was outfinished while well clear for the show. KING PHOENIX switched out while showing speed coming to the five-eighths pole, chased then pressed the pace on the outside, vied in the two path on the turn and tired. CELTIC PRINCE had his head turned at the start, was bumped while off slow then taken up, settled under some urging, saved ground on the turn, turned into the stretch in the two path and came up empty. DEAD AIM veered in at the start and bumped hard with a foe while off a bit slow, dropped back under urging, angled in late on the backstretch, saved ground on the turn and was no factor. ONE VISION bumped a few times with a foe at the start, dropped to the rear under urging, drifted out late on the backstretch, rounded the turn in the three path and failed to threaten.
