LIBERTE DE BAYEUX pressed the pace on the outside, took the lead before the half-mile pole, vied in the three path on the turn, shook clear late on that bend, was roused into upper stretch, drew away under a drive while remaining on his inside lead, was driven hard into the final seventy yards then eased up late while much the best. AUGUSTINE RED steadied outside the three-quarter pole when CASTLE ISLAND came inward, settled off the pace, moved out with five furlongs to run, dropped from the three path to the rail while roused on the turn and earned the place while no threat to the winner. CASTLE ISLAND was hustled from the gate, moved in while going to the front, showed the way under pressure to his outside, lost the lead before the half-mile pole, vied inside for most of the turn, moved to the three path after losing touch with the winner late on that bend and weakened but was clear for the show. NARCISO DALI was hustled from the gate then chased the early pace, dropped back while climbing badly outside the five-eighths pole then moved out, shifted from the two path to the three path late on the turn, drifted out near the sixteenth-pole and lacked the needed response. MORE VINO was hustled from the gate then urged along off the pace, saved ground while dropping back on the turn and failed to respond.
