HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPS was hustled to the front then moved in, showed the way down the backstretch, vied in the two path for most of the turn then dropped to the rail, responded well when asked coming to the quarter-pole, battled inside of the runner-up in upper stretch, was put to a right-handed crop outside the furlong marker, continued under a right-handed crop until outside the sixteenth-pole, fought with the runner-up under a vigorous hand-ride from that point to the finish and narrowly prevailed. KID BILLY broke a half-step slow and was last away, moved up to stalk the pace on the outside, vied in the three path for most of the turn then dropped to the two path, was asked into the stretch, dueled outside the winner while remaining on his inside lead into the final sixteenth, swapped to the proper lead about seventy yards from the finish and just missed while clear for the place. ON THE HILL settled on the outside, chased in the four path on the turn, pursued the top two in the stretch and lacked the needed kick while clear for the show. POP COYER bobbled at the start but broke towards the front, settled off the pace, was urged along while moving from the three to five path on the turn and lacked the needed response. PRINCE OF TRUTH was hustled from the gate then urged towards the rear, rounded the turn in the two path, turned into the stretch under the crop and failed to respond. LIMIT UP was hustled from the start then well placed just off the pace, drafted inside on the turn, was given his cue near the quarter-pole and came up empty. MESSI THE MAGICIAN was hustled from the gate then urged along at the rear, raced inside for most of the turn then shifted to the two path, turned into the stretch in the three path, moved out inside the three-sixteenths pole and failed to threaten.
