Footnotes
STARS AND STRIPES established a forward position under some urging early, prompted the pace on the outside in the two then three path, turned up the pressure on the leader on the far turn, was given his cue outside the quarter-pole, took the advantage at the top of the stretch then kicked clear under a strong hand-ride, powered away under a brisk hand-ride until just before the sixteenth-pole, was eased up at that point then leapt tracks late before coasting to the finish a much the best winner. MAKES SENSE raced in the three path on the first turn, passed the seven-eighths pole between horses, dropped back early on the backstretch then came under urging, went around the far turn in the three path while ridden along, came out to the five path into upper stretch then was carried well out by LAST MAN STANDING and safely secured the place while no match for the winner. LAST MAN STANDING was a bit slow into stride, moved out early then advanced on the outside into the first turn, was rated in the four path on that bend, stalked the pace on the outside, rounded the far turn in the four path, was asked near the five-sixteenths pole, drifted out in upper stretch and weakened but was clear for the show. INTO INSPIRATION was sent hard to the front, showed the way while inside to the two path, was asked under heavy threat on the far turn, lost the advantage at the quarter-pole and faded. THE HERO CODE broke out then bobbled every so slightly while off a step slow, saved ground while placed under a strong hold on the first turn, dropped back early on the backstretch then came under urging, chased inside on the far turn and faltered then was eased in the final furlong but walked off.
