Footnotes
MAYOR OF MIDNIGHT (IRE) was caught in the four path on the first turn, tucked in behind cover down the stretch for the first time, rounded the second turn in the two path, continued reserved behind cover down the backstretch, was roused in the three then four path on the final turn, rallied in the five path into the stretch, gained the advantage near the three-sixteenths pole, battled with A BOURBON FOR TOBY into the final sixteenth, fought with the runner-up late and determinedly prevailed under strong urging. ROYAL'S PRIDE (GB) was coaxed to establish position early then taken under a snug hold, saved ground while rated off the pace, drafted behind horses on the far turn, waited while shifting to the three path at the quarter-pole, altered out from behind horses in upper stretch, accelerated into the final furlong, closed well to make a bid into the final sixteenth, fought with the winner to the finish and just missed while able to get the place. A BOURBON FOR TOBY was taken in hand early, raced in the two path on the first turn, tossed his head while rank late on that bend, was reserved in the two path, settled outside but with cover on the backstretch, was roused while moving from the four to five path on the far turn, rallied in tandem with the winner, gained in the six path into the stretch then made a bid, battled with the winner into the final sixteenth and missed while clear for the show. SPUN dropped back early, saved ground while reserved towards the rear, was asked on the final turn then moved off the rail, came into the stretch in the four path then quickly angled out and improved position. FATEFUL LIGHTNING raced in the three path on the first turn, tracked the pace on the outside while continuing in the three path, was asked on the final turn, spun into the stretch in the four path, dropped back into the final furlong, drifted in around the sixteenth-pole and weakened. DE LA CRUZ stalked the pace on the outside in the two path, was given his cue on the final turn, led briefly into upper stretch then lost the advantage, dropped back into the final furlong and tired. EXTRAORDINARY ONE (GB) went to the front, was well rated while setting the pace on the inside, came under threat on the final turn, was asked late on that bend, lost the advantage into upper stretch and gave way. BRIGHT ANGEL (IRE) broke out then dropped back, went around the opening bend in the three then four path, lagged at the rear, saved on the second turn, came under urging on the backstretch, raced inside on the final turn and was no factor.
