Footnotes
HOURS IN A DAY broke out at the start bumping FIRST TRUMPET, chased two to three wide under a ride from the three-eighths marker, went seven to eight wide into upper stretch, rallied to issue a challenge inside the final furlong and seized command near the sixteenth pole, then edged clear to the finish kept busy to the end. KNOX got bumped between foes at the start who each broke his way and conceded four lengths to the front before settling into stride, chased three to four wide from the tail of the field, came under light coaxing at the seven-sixteenths, angled in to the two path with five-sixteenths to go, continued just off the inside into upper stretch, angled in to the rail a furlong out and closed well inside to get up for the place honors in the final jumps. RIDE UP coaxed from the gate, raced forwardly placed before seizing command six furlongs from home, showed the way in hand just off the inside under pressure from HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPS to the outside, came under encouragement at the five-sixteenths, spun two to three wide into upper stretch shaking off that pressing rival, dug in under threat and was caught a sixteenth out, kept on to the finish but was collared for the place honors in the last jumps while clear for the show. EPITAPH broke in at the start bumping KNOX in tandem with BADLANDS RULER, chased three to four wide advancing on the front to stack outside the top pair three furlongs from home, came under urging at the five-sixteenths, tipped five wide into upper stretch, dug in and was repelled by the leader a furlong out, then weakened in the late stages. HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPS led briefly early on before pressing the pace of RIDE UP from the outside two to three wide, came under coaxing between foes at the three-eighths marker, swung four wide into upper stretch in the midst of being shaken off, then weakened in the stretch. FIRST TRUMPET got bumped at the start by HOURS IN A DAY, who broke outwards, chased four to five wide under a ride from the five-sixteenths, angled six wide into upper stretch and weakened. BADLANDS RULER broke out at the start bumping KNOX in concert with EPITAPH, chased just off the inside and then along the inside under encouragement from midway on the turn, angled five wide at the head of the stretch, tired.
