Footnotes
SMART CODE stepped to the front and opened up a comfortable lead on the inside, remained well into the lane, led clear under left handed urging into deep stretch, grew a bit weary late but was able to hold. HEART HEADED sat off the pace in the two path, ridden along three deep at the quarter pole, moved into second with a furlong remaining, closed in on the leader in deep stretch but was too late. ONE OF THESE DAYS (IRE) saved ground from off the pace, came under a ride on the far turn, got boxed in from the three-sixteenth pole to the eighth pole, moved into the clear and finished well to edge CAISSON for the show honors. CAISSON was reserved in the opening stages on the inside, saved ground through the far turn as well, angled out at the top of the lane, rallied and missed third. BEEF WINSLOW got crowded shortly after the start, moved to the inside trailing the field, tipped out on the far turn, went three deep into the lane, moved out further and could not make an impact. JEWELED SHILLELAGH stalked two wide into the first turn then found the rail, was closest in pursuit while out of striking distance of the leader up the backstretch and far turn and lacked the needed response in the stretch run. SIMPLEXITY (IRE) tracked from inside around the first turn, traveled in mid-pack up the backstretch, moved off the fence to the two path around the far turn and failed to threaten. ESCAPE ARTIST traveled outside a rival well off the pace, continued two wide on the far turn, moved out in upper stretch and failed to menace.
