Footnotes
BESSIE COLEMAN had to take up along the inside shortly after the start, moved into range quickly while steered off the fence, chased two then three wide around the bend, seized command approaching the sixteenth pole and drove clear. THIRST FOR PASSION came over to bother a pair of rivals early, stalked from inside, roused past the quarter pole, cut the corner into the lane, moved out in upper stretch, cut back to the inside midstretch and finished gamely for second. PRACTICAL DAZZLE stepped to the front and showed the way early with NATURALLY BLONDE to the outside, cleared that rival midway around the bend, led clear into the final furlong but was soon challenge by rivals on both sides, yielded at the sixteenth pole and managed to hold third. NATURALLY BLONDE pressed the pace from outside, chased two wide past the five-sixteenths pole, stayed within range into the final furlong but weakened in deep stretch. PLAY MY SPEED had to take up when a rival crossed in front shortly after the start, steadied again when CHERING FOR LAYLA came over not too long after, paused behind that rival leaving the backstretch, moved to the rail briefly on the turn then shifted back to the two path and was never a factor. CHEERING FOR LAYLA tracked off the rail, then moved inside for the turn and lacked a response when called upon.
