SMILING BEAST raced up close to the inside of the pacesetter early, chased along the rail into the turn, shifted over to the two path around the bend, latched onto DEVIL AMONG US in upper stretch, dueled through the final furlong and dug in to edge the runner-up. DEVIL AMONG US away quickly to take control, showed the way off the inside up the backstretch, angled to the rail on the turn, met the bid from SMILING BEAST in upper stretch, battled the final eighth pole and finished gamely in defeat. AFTERNOON NAP chased under coaxing from inside, loomed along the rail entering the lane, could not summon the needed late kick and flattened late but managed to save third. GOOD VIBES ONLY tracked between rivals off the pace, took the turn two then three wide, offered a mild rally in the stretch and missed third. SPIRITUAL ADVISOR chased widest up the backstretch, took the turn three then four wide and failed to rally. TRAVELIN' SHOW chased off the rail then between foes into the turn, rounded the bend in the two path and weakened in the drive. UNBRIDLED VISION tracked three deep into the turn, chased four wide with a quarter mile remaining and failed to menace. BLACK BEARDS GHOST broke a step slow, ran up on heels then climbed early, hugged the rail to the stretch and came up empty. J DUTTON climbed along early at the back, trailed two wide into the turn, drifted five wide around the bend and never got involved. BEE EYE GEE raced in range three deep between rivals leaving the backstretch, got put in tight from the three-eighths pole to the five-sixteenths marker and tired in the lane.
