Footnotes
IRONSIDES allowed to settle early, saved ground to the second turn, was caught in tight nearing the quarter marker then checked at that station, found room along the inside into upper stretch and loomed approaching the furlong grounds, tipped out while full of run into the final sixteenth and drew clear late under hand urging. GENERAL LEDGER broke alertly, was engaged into the first turn by MERLIN, dueled that rival through solid fractions into the backstretch, shook free of that rival into the far turn and held a clear lead to upper stretch, maintained a clear lead into the final furlong, was overhauled by the winner in deep stretch and held for second at the wire. FREEDOM PRINCIPLE was forwardly placed in the early stages, tracked the dueling pacesetters along the backstretch, saved ground into the far turn and ran in pursuit to the quarter pole, shifted to the two path to upper stretch, could not find the needed response in the final sixteenth and missed for second, while just holding for third. SAMBURU (GB) settled off of the disputed early pace, raced in traffic while two wide and between foes into the far turn, found a seam four wide into upper stretch, found his best stride late and just missed for the minor awards. JACK KEROUAC settled off of the fast early pace, chased four wide into the far turn then swung five wide for the stretch drive, mounted a mild rally into the final sixteenth but needed more late. NINJA STAR settled off of the early pace, advanced three then four wide nearing the quarter marker, could not sustain that run into the final furlong and flattened out. MASTER PIECE (CHI) unhurried in the early going, trailed to the quarter marker and lacked the needed late response. FULL NELSON settled in the second flight leaving the start, tracked the disputed pace to the half-mile marker, chased two to three wide and between foes heading to the quarter pole, could not keep pace to upper stretch then gave way in the drive. MERLIN sent to vie for the early lead, engaged with GENERAL LEDGER into the first turn then dueled outside of that rival into the backstretch, disputed a quick pace to the second turn, was repelled nearing the quarter marker and tired in the stretch drive.
