FRIAR NEWTON was clear early and drew off under steady handling. SPEED INSTITUTE stalked the early pace inside, bid at the half-mile pole, angled five wide at the quarter pole, then was no match in the drive. FINN AND BRENNAN saved ground, angled six wide at the quarter pole and gave way. BIG WALT hopped at the start, pressed the pace outside of the winner and gave way on the far turn. ONLY FRANK KNOWS was off awkwardly and was no factor.
