Footnotes
WHO LU stalked the pacesetting ATHELAS from the start to the far turn, letting that one dictate the fractions, bid for the lead approaching the quarter pole, met some resistance from that foe and also a threat from BYZANTINE on the outside but quickened away in the final furlong and won clear under steady handling. REAL MISCHIEVOUS was held up in the early going, tracked behind the pace while saving ground to the far turn, launched a bid midway on the far turn and finished with good interest but could not get to the winner. IFUAINTFIRSTURLAST was not asked for speed from the break and allowed to settle along the rail, raced well off the pace to the far turn, waited for room late on the turn, then dove the rail and finished up well, but did not have the winning kick. ATHELAS broke well, seized the early lead and was left to dictate slow fractions, led the field into the far turn, dig in under a threat from WHO LU at the quarter pole, battled gamely to mid-stretch then weakened. BYZANTINE settled two wide through th eearly stages then circled the field three wide on the far turn loomed a threat to mid-stretch then went flat in the final furlong and was outfinished. QUEEN BERKELEY tracked two deep in the middle of the field, was always close up, quickened late but was outsprinted to the finish. SIR SAWYER raced three wide through the early stages, got as close as mid-pack on the backstretch, then weakened on the turn and faded. DADDY'S CINDERELLA settled near the rear of the field racing three wide, struggled to keep pace passing the half, lost ground, and was not a factor in the late stages.
