FORMAL AFFAIR , away alertly, got into a pace battle outside HONOR THE CROSS into the first turn, carried that scrum through the backstretch and around the final turn, gained command soon into the stretch, shook clear a furlong out then steadily widened under a drive. VILALUZ broke a bit slow, settled off the contested pace and off the inside, edged up leaving the far turn, took closer order three wide and between runners leaving the five sixteenths, loomed a presence nearing the eighth pole, had his bid turned away but kept on with some interest to gain the place. HONOR THE CROSS , away alertly and to a slim advantage along the inner rail, was hounded by the winner through the backstretch and final turn, ceded the lead in upper stretch then gave way grudgingly through the final seventy yards. BALI ROLLING TIDE secured the inside into the first turn, edged up nearing the half and had dead aim on the embattled leaders, chased past the five sixteenths then came up empty in the drive. PORTIS was taken wide early and rated along into the backstretch, moved up three wide then drifted out a path near the five sixteenths, gave futile chase into the stretch then weakened.
