HIGHWAYMAN made a two wide lead entering the first turn, moved over to the inner rail on the backstretch, saved ground on the far turn, held a clear lead approaching the stretch, was challenged on his outside by CHEVY MAN in upper stretch, drifted out slightly approaching the sixteenth pole and dug in stubbornly. CHEVY MAN , in the four path entering the far turn, advanced outside the winner to bid for the lead in upper stretch, floated out slightly inside the eighth pole and hung. MUNGO advanced five deep entering the far turn, chased the pace and flattened out. CHAZ THE CHIEF lacked speed, was five wide turning for home and passed tired horses. SPIN IT , three wide the first turn, chased the pace and weakened. AMEN MCLAREN chased the pace, eased out to the four path entering the stretch and came up empty. PIETRELCINA raced between horses in the stretch and was no factor. NORTHERN RYE stalked the pace along the inner rail and gave way on the far turn. UNAFFECTED , three wide the first turn, prompted the pace outside the winner to the far turn and faltered. READY AND ABLE stalked the pace along the inner rail and faltered leaving the backstretch. ELFUEGOMASBRILANTE unseated his rider when breaking awkwardly. then galloped around the track outside rivals. An objection by the rider of CHEVY MAN against the winner for alleged interference inside the eighth pole was not allowed. There was a stewards' inquiry concerning the start but no action was taken.
