PROTECTED set the pace racing off the inside, showed the way on the far turn, drifted wide entering the stretch, responded when roused, drifted back down to the rail past the furlong marker and dug in gamely late to hold on. LAST ROMANCE raced two wide off the pace, chased three wide on the far turn, came five wide into the stretch, rallied outside, dug in gamely in the final sixteenth and was gaining slowly at the end. FOREVER CHOCOLATE raced off the pace inside, chased inside on the far turn, rallied inside in the stretch run and did not threaten the top pair. AMATTEROFTIME raced three wide early, settled off the pace, chased on the far turn and closed belatedly outside. GROUCH raced four wide early, stalked the leader, chased on the far turn, bid at the quarter pole, angled in behind PROTECTED at the top of the lane and weakened. IRISH BOOLUM was outrun.
