Footnotes
SPEED KING away in good order, cleared in the two path to show the way through the first turn, rated in the run up the backstretch, shrugged off a foe to be well clear when straightened for home, enough left to hold the runner up safe late. SANDMAN broke in bad tangle to spot the field several lengths, raced four wide through the first turn when still back, began an advance five wide far turn, closed the gap in upper stretch while brushing with PATCH ADAMS, ran on to the wire to continue to carve into the winner margin while clear for the place. TIZTASTIC broke forwardly, in tight between horses into the first turn, steadied slightly, in some traffic while still with the main body final turn, came four wide for the drive when advancing, kept grinding down the lane to be up for the show in the final strides. PATCH ADAMS bobbled at the start, lacked early foot off the inside, lodged a middle move beginning midway on the final turn to reach closest to the winner by midstretch, chased that one past the furlong marker, flattened out in the late going to lose a couple of positions. MONET'S MAGIC forwardly placed early inside, fell back into the far turn, lacked room just off the inside midway on that bend, three wide into the lane, went evenly to the wire in lacking a serious late response. AMERICAN PROMISE off a step slow, four wide first turn, moved closer before a half, prompted the winner through the final turn, was giving way when he came in approaching the furlong marker forcing PUBLISHER into the rail, continued to weaken. PUBLISHER bobbled at the start, raced well back off the pace just off the inside early, saved ground into second bend, got through rail, improved into the lane while continuing to improve, jammed into the rail by AMERICAN PROMISE with over a furlong to run to lose all chance. GAMING rank past the wire the first time, was in a bit tight when checked into the first turn, remained back throughout in failing to menace. BON TEMPS pressed the winner early, began a steady retreat after a half. FOLLOWING A STEWARDS' INQUIRY REGARDING THE STRETCH RUN, AMERICAN PROMISE WAS DISQUALIFIED FROM SIXTH AND PLACED SEVENTH.
