SANDMAN in some traffic just after the start to be back early, three wide first turn, unhurried in the run up the backstretch, swept up toward the tiring leaders and COAL BATTLE turning for home four wide, gained command upper, lugged out sharply with a furlong to run when clear, maintained a comfortable daylight advantage to the wire over the runner up under steady handling. PUBLISHER last to leave, void of any early speed just off the inside, began to move far turn while steering out four wide behind the winner into the lane, could do little with that one as he chased him to the wire, well clear of the rest. COAL BATTLE closest to the dueling leaders, quickly reeled that pair in late in the final turn, challenged three wide, briefly led between calls upper stretch, could not match strides with the top two the final furlong. CORNUCOPIAN broke sharp, dueled into the first turn on the outside, helped set a torrid pace the opening half, briefly put the other speed away late in the final bend, ran with the top three for a few strides in upper stretch and then weakened. BRERETON'S BAYTOWN bit reluctant to load, raced in mid pack off the inside, three wide through the final turn, went evenly without threatening through the stretch. SPEED KING bothered slight at the start, moved up inside the other speed to duel into the first turn, went extremely quickly for six furlongs, first to blink late in the final turn, continued to back up through the lane. MONET'S MAGIC lacked speed, moved to the rail late in the final turn, picked off a couple of tiring rivals while never close. BESTFRIEND ROCKET broke out, raced in the main body while off the inside, had nothing for the drive and backed up to finish well back. FIRST DIVISION in the second flight inside, stopped, also was far back at the end. FOLLOWING A BRIEF STEWARDS INQUIRY REGARDING THE RUN THROUGH MIDSTRETCH, NO ACTION WAS TAKEN.
