KOUFAX broke on top, set the pace inside, rated in the run up the backstretch, continued to show the way into the stretch, shook clear and drew off under steady handling. CALIFORNIA TIGER pressed the winner from the outside, continued closest to that one through the second turn, could not keep up through the stretch, clearly second best. BEYOND BEST forwardly placed while racing three wide, finished up best of the rest in lacking a closing response threat. SILVER HEIST pulled early while along the inside, continued to save ground to no avail in also coming up empty in the drive. PIKE PLACE went one paced while racing off the inside. DEMOTIVATE unruly while warming up, was brought to the gate without his rider, loaded in good order, fell back to trail soon after the break, sluggish, distanced stretch after losing contact with the field. VITTORIO back off the pace while racing three wide, continued outside into the far turn, went wrong late in that bend, pulled up, exited the track via the equine ambulance.
