Footnotes
RIDDLE SOLVER away in good order, took control soon after, continued to set the pace along the inside, firmly shaken up entering along the inside when dueling with a rival, put that foe with less than a furlong to run then held the runner up safe late under continued brisk handling. FIRST PLAYER forwardly placed while in the two path, asked for some run in the second flight behind the two leaders into the stretch, slowly closing the gap on the winner late while edging clear for the second spot. GUN RUNNER CHARLIE four wide into the first turn, prompted the winner the middle half, engaged the winner from the outside turning for home, briefly dueled then could not keep up, outgunned late for the second spot. FIREBALL BIRDIE mid pack early, raced outside, three wide in the second flight leaving the final bend, went evenly through the lane in lacking a closing kick. DETERMINEDLY in mid pack early off the rail, angled in a bit to tighten up an inner rival first turn, continued unhurried up the backstretch, came three wide for the drive, one paced to the wire in failing to muster a closing punch. WE NEED A FAVOR backed back and outside, four wide through the second turn, failed to make an impact in the drive. STOKE THE FIRE broke outward and back, moved up to a forward position along the inside the opening quarter, remained within striking distance for six furlongs and tired. GETTYSBURG ADDRESS stumbled badly at the start, trailed well back, picked off a couple of tiring rivals after the issue had been decided. WINTERS LION one paced early while three wide, continued outside, had nothing for the drive. SHIFTY GOLD lacked speed, in tight, steadied along the rail in the first turn, fell back to trail and was never involved.
