Footnotes
EXCEL CALCULATOR settled off the pace taking back and tucking in on the first turn, lost ground into the far turn and had much to do three furlongs out but began to advance at that juncture, swung nine wide into upper stretch, continued to rally and stormed past inside the final furlong. FREEDOM MAKER bumped a rival just after the break, settled off the leaders on or just off the rail tracking, was blocked in behind and steadied past the quarter pole, sought room in upper stretch moving out then diving back in, made a mild inside bid was no match for the winner. SUPREME COAST was forced four to five wide in the early going, moved closer on the far turn still racing wide, bid in upper- to mid-stretch taking a narrow and brief lead, kept on in the lane but was not enough. TRAVAIL was bumped just after the start, moved out three to four deep in the early going, advanced on the leaders early up the backstretch, was in contention coming into upper stretch, switched outside foes past the eighth pole and ran on but needed more. SINFUL KING was urged from the start, chased the loose leader early then swiftly advanced that one to take a narrow brief lead at the five- and one-half, vied between foes racing mostly three to four wide, lugged in a bit in late stretch and lacked the needed late kick. STEPBROTHERAUSTIN sped clear, set the pace from off the rail, appeared to get out leaving the first turn and shied from a right-handed use of the crop to correct this action thereby losing the clear advantage and being relegated back to second, was encouraged along at that juncture to keep pace with and then retake the lead, contended inside foes but off the fence turning for home, weakened thereafter and steadied late when a rival came over in front. BETTERBELUCKY was forced then kept very wide throughout going mostly six wide through the turns and floating a bit further turning for home, failed to rally.
