Footnotes
JOURNALISM stalked along the rail and took a slight hold behind CITIZEN BULL into the first turn, followed the top pair inside BARNES up the backstretch, got shuffled behind WESTWOOD and bumped with BARNES at the seven-sixteenths pole, tipped out into the clear, spun three wide into the stretch, drew alongside BAEZA with a furlong remaining and bested that rival in the final sixteenth. BAEZA bobbled slightly at the start, trailed into the first turn, drew closer four wide around the bend, moved up outside the dueling leaders on the backstretch, challenged CITIZEN BULL around the far turn, dueled on even terms entering the lane, took control shortly after, put CITIZEN BULL away at the eighth pole while being confronted by JOURNALISM, fought gamely into deep stretch and yielded grudgingly to the winner. WESTWOOD cleared CITIZEN BULL and moved over to the inside, headed by that rival around the clubhouse turn, dueled up the backstretch, got put in tight at the seven-sixteenths pole, chased along the rail to the stretch, kept trying down the lane and was able to get by CITIZEN BULL for the show honors nearing the wire. CITIZEN BULL away quickly and ceded command briefly to WESTWOOD, switched to the outside and went up to challenge on the first turn, dueled up the backstretch holding a slim advantage, cleared WESTWOOD at the seven-sixteenths pole but came under pressure from BAEZA around the second bend, relinquished the lead in upper stretch, yielded to the new leader with a furlong remaining and flattened to fourth. BARNES chased keenly from the three path early, bumped with JOURNALISM at the seven-sixteenths pole, rounded the far turn two then three wide and had little left for the stretch run.
