Footnotes
HIGHLANDS settled inside, tipped out at the quarter pole, launched a bid in upper stretch, fought three deep in the final sixteenth and drove clear late. VALKYRIAN (IRE) broke a step slow on the outside, raced up close in the two path, challenged midway around the far turn, dueled through the lane and could not produce the needed late kick in deep stretch. MADEIRA WINE grabbed the lead and moved inside, controlled the pace to the far turn, challenged by VALKYRIAN (IRE) at the five-sixteenths pole, resisted into deep stretch and yielded grudgingly late. TIERGARTEN stalked inside, followed the leader through the far turn while saving ground, angled out in upper stretch and went evenly late. BIG MAMA SUE got crowded and took up between rivals early, traveled in the two path outside a rival at the back around the first turn, angled to the rail at the quarter pole, steered out in upper stretch, moved back in a bit in the final furlong and could not rally. ZEYARAAT bobbled at the start, chased from off the pace in the two path, three deep at the quarter pole, moved out at the top of the lane and weakened.
