Footnotes
GOING NOWHERE chased between rivals, bumped on both sides at the three-eighths pole, recovered quickly and bid three deep around the bend, dueled in the four path turning for home, put a head in front in upper stretch, battled nose to nose in the final furlong and gamely prevailed. FAIR QUESTION was closest in pursuit two wide into the turn, challenged the leader from outside at the five-sixteenths pole, took over at the quarter pole, dueled in the three path leaving the bend, lost the lead in upper stretch, battled back to the wire and just missed. SIRNAMI sat off the pace outside a rival, crept closer on the turn, finished willingly along the fence in the lane to gain third but could not reach the top pair. JOE VITTORI chased three deep leaving the backstretch, came in and bumped GOING NOWHERE at the three-eighths pole, exited the bend two to three wide and could not summon the needed rally. THE MAX FACTOR settled inside, got shuffled behind a trouble rival at the three-eighths pole, remained next to the rail to the lane, kept trying down the stretch but failed to threaten. BELLO ROSSO raced near the back in the opening stages, rounded the bend in the two path and failed to make an impact. HE'S PROOF OF JOY sprinted clear and set the tone early, led along the inside into the turn, challenged at the five-sixteenths marker, lost command with a quarter mile remaining and faded in the drive. MORDRED'S REVENGE trailed on the inside and passed a tired rival in the lane. SIR DAGONET was off slow in the beginning, moved up inside a pair of rivals, got bumped, put in tight and checked at the three-eighths pole, chased off the rail into the lane and had little left for the stretch run. THERE WAS AN INQUIRY INVOLVING THE INCIDENT BETWEEN GOING NOWHERE, JOE VITTORI AND SIR DAGONET AT THE THREE-EIGHTHS POLE. FOLLOWING A REVIEW, THE STEWARDS RULED IN A MAJORITY DECISION TO DISQUALIFY JOE VITTORI FROM FOURTH TO LAST FOR COMING IN AND FORCING GOING NOWHERE INTO SIR DAGONET, CAUSING SIR DAGONET TO TAKE UP AND COSTING HIM A CHANCE AT A BETTER PLACING.
